TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF USE

The following “Terms and Conditions of Use” relates to Luckwell Developments Ltd and/or its subsidiaries (including, but not limited to, the centres trading as Redpoint and Flashpoint).

ACCEPTANCE OF RISK

“The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”

Although a climbing centre is an artificial environment, the risks involved are no less serious than when climbing outside on a crag or mountain. There is an additional risk that bolt-on holds can spin or break, resulting in a fall.

The matting under the boulder walls does not remove the risk of injury. Broken and sprained limbs are common on this type of climbing wall. Uncontrolled falls are likely to result in injury to yourself or others.

Climbing beyond your capabilities on any wall is likely to result in a fall. Any fall may result in an injury despite the safety systems in place to avoid it. You must make your own assessment of the risks whenever you climb.

OUR DUTY OF CARE

The rules set out below are not intended to limit your enjoyment of the facilities. They are part of the duty of care that we, as operators, owe to you, the customer, by law. As such they are non negotiable and if you are not prepared to abide by them, then the staff may politely ask you to leave.

YOUR DUTY OF CARE

You also have a duty of care to act responsibly towards other users of the centres. Statements of ‘Good Practice’ are posted around the centres adjacent to the relevant facilities. These describe the accepted methods of use and how customers would normally be expected to behave towards each other.

UNSUPERVISED CLIMBING

Before you climb without supervision on walls requiring the use of a rope, the centres expect you to be competent in the use of a safety harness, a suitable knot to attach a rope to the harness and a belay device to secure a falling climber and lower a climber from the wall using a rope.

Before you climb in our bouldering areas we expect you to be able to describe the dangers involved with bouldering and accept the risks involved.

There are two tiers of registration for adults. Full Registration which includes ropes, auto-belays, bouldering and training equipment OR Boulder Only Registration which allows the use of the bouldering walls and training equipment. Anyone who has not registered as a roped climber is classed as a novice and must not climb the roped walls or auto-belay walls without supervision.

If you are not confident in the use of any climbing equipment or technique then do not attempt to use it without the supervision of someone who is competent to do so. You must not register to climb unsupervised unless confident that you fully understand and accept the risks involved and how to manage them.

SUPERVISED CLIMBING – ROPED CENTRES

An adult who has registered as a fully competent roped climber will normally be allowed to supervise up to two novices or under 18 climbers in our roped centres as long as they are prepared to take full responsibility for the safety of those people and complete the relevant paperwork.

You must always talk to staff and fill out a supervision form before supervising adults or under 18s, doing any activity in any of the centres.

Groups of three or more novices must only be supervised by an instructor holding the relevant qualifications and insurance.

SUPERVISED CLIMBING – BOULDERING CENTRES

An adult who has registered at our centres will normally be allowed to supervise one child aged between 7 – 11 years old or two participants if at least one of them is over 12 years old. The supervising adult must take full responsibility for the safety of the participants and complete the relevant paperwork.

Children under the age of 7 are not permitted to use the bouldering only centres. You must always talk to the staff and fill out a supervision form before supervising adults or under 18s, doing any activity in any of the centres.

Groups of three or more novices must only be supervised by an instructor holding the relevant qualifications and insurance.

CHILDREN

All children in the centres must be under the direct control of, and in line of sight of, a supervising adult unless they have been assessed by the management or registered for unsupervised climbing. See the Minor Supervision Policy for more details. If the supervising member is not the parent they must have gained consent from a parent or legal guardian.

PHOTOS

We may use any photos taken of you in the centres on our websites and social media. You must inform the Duty Manager every time you enter the building if you do not consent.

ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol when climbing is strictly forbidden. The acceptable level of alcohol in your system is zero. If the staff suspect or know you have had an alcoholic drink you may be refused entry.
